Mobile HUBI Portal: introduction

Introduction

The Mobile HUBI Portal at m.hubi.fi is a free-to-use service pilot produced in a research project, offering context-aware services in the Helsinki capital area, on your mobile phone. Available services include:

Public transport route guide
Find routes, see transfer maps
Use your current position and own places
Event recommender
Your personal, learning recommender!
Find events of interest near you
Public services
Find the nearest sports site, library or toilet
See position on map and route guidance

You can use the service with:

Sizl user account; works also for the other services of the OtaSizzle network
HUBI user account; works also for the HUBI Portal, opened in 2009 for pilot use in PC devices (content is mainly different from the Mobile HUBI Portal)
no registration; only some of the features are available.

Notes

VTT has produced the Mobile HUBI Portal for trial use in a research project studying ubiquitous mobile services, in cooperation with Tekes and partner companies. User comments are valuable in further development of the service pilot. We would gladly hear your views!

The service has been tested primarily on iPhone, Android and Nokia devices, and it has been optimized for the following screen resolutions: 240 x 320, 320 x 480 and 360 x 640. Positioning is acquired from GPS or as an approximate location from the mobile phone network.

The services are free to use, but your mobile phone operator charges you for data connections. Mobile plans with fixed monthly price for data connections are recommended. Examples about data transfer amounts: loading the portal ~300 kb, finding the routes on the travel guide and browsing the stop maps ~100-200 kb in total, loading the event recommendations ~30-40 kb.
